Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

I am cho ('very much' in japanese; other wise translated as 'so') addicted to Devil Survivor, an RPG for Nintendo DS. It was recently released in Japan earlier January and was only available in English (USA) last month. So this baby is just one month old! // correction: About 2 weeks old at the time of this post, released on June 23 //

Devil Survivor received Gamespot's editor's choice award; rated 9.0 over 10 for a unique gameplay, of intriguing story with suspense (cause theres a lot of decision making in this game, thus every step taken varies by the player's choice; so its not only full of suspense but also meaningful), plus a HIGH variety of character customization.

For example, this Naoya guy. He's a genius hacker and although he's my cousin (the hero i play), since the beginning of the story, im not sure if he's on the good side or bad side despite guiding my team in surviving the chaos in Tokyo; demons rampage plus very less chances of surviving. And my greatest suspense is, whatever i am doing now (in game), im not really sure if i am doing it for mankind or against mankind. Totally unique gameplay, i'd say, cause im so immersed in it.

Anyway, i was supposed to talk about Naoya on the 'high variety character customization'.

He wears casual beneath a yukata as mantle and gote (japanese wooden flops). And if you notice, the patterns on his yukata are matrix style digital numbers. Very simple yet very much unthought of to introduce such mysterious guide for the game. No need to elaborate more, you get the idea.

I'm still in the early stage of the game so i cant explain much on story but yes, gameplay is fantastic. I kinda got carried away the day i got it... playing like theres no assignment to complete ehehee =_=;;

Maybe i can say that while being in the game, i felt like i am reading a manga, watching an anime and wanting to know the end of the story so excitedly, altogether! If Devil survivor was a book, im gonna say its a page-turner.

By the way, whats more amazing is, Yasuda Suzuhito handled the character designs for Devil Survivor. Solely! Yasuda is a mangaka (novel graphic artist) for Yozakura Quartet, which is now available on anime.

The story takes place in a town where human and youkai co-exist together. But lately, there's some bizzare incidents threathening the town and this is where four teenagers with unique abilities banded together to protect the town and it's spiritual barrier.

Four main characters but still, theres just so much different characters contributing into this great story.

If i can put this into simpler understanding, it'll be:

Yasuda Suzuhito gave a new meaning to the word Unique.
